Upcoming Trips

Dear Valued Volunteer,

I am pleased to announce that People for Haiti is now receiving many, many requests from people interested in joining our mission teams.  It is awesome to see this heightened level of interest and to see People for Haiti growing at such a fast rate.  As much as we want to take everyone and wish all interested persons could join us on a mission, our transportation method and lodging in Haiti only allows us to bring a team of around 12 people on each mission trip.  Our short-term mission trips are generally 5 days long with 3 days reserved to conduct medical clinics.  Due to the rigorous demands of the mission trips, volunteers must be in good health.  Mission trip attendees are to be 21 years of age and older.  Any volunteer under the age of 21 must be accompanied by a parent that has completed a mission trip with People for Haiti prior to the minor attending.  A face-to-face/internet video interview is required for anyone under the age of 21 or for anyone not personally known by the People for Haiti board of directors.  Even with all requirements met, the People for Haiti board of directors has the final determination on who will attend any mission trip regardless of whether a deposit has already been accepted.

Due to a greater demand than spots available on our mission trips, in order to reserve a spot on a trip, (noting all attendees must be approved by the Board) you must complete the required steps below.

(1)  Email the following information to peopleforhaiti@gmail.com: Name; Occupation; Address; Email address; Phone number; Passport number/expiration date; Emergency contact name, relationship and phone number; T-shirt size; and your American Airlines frequent flier # (optional).

(2)  Mail a $600 nonrefundable deposit to People for Haiti, 2132 Flameflower Court, Trinity, FL  34655.  The check should specify the dates of the mission trip requested.  This nonrefundable deposit will be applied in full toward the volunteer’s expenses for the mission trip for which the volunteer registered, and not to future missions.  Once the deposit is paid, the volunteer will not be able to change mission trip dates without forfeiting the deposit.  If you have any questions regarding this, I encourage you to contact People for Haiti prior to submitting your deposit because the deposit is truly nonrefundable and will not be refunded under any circumstance.

If a volunteer is unable or unwilling to submit the deposit required to reserve his/her place for a mission trip but would like to be placed on a waiting list for a trip, the volunteer should email People for Haiti and his/her name will be placed on a waiting list.  It is important to note that by placing a volunteer’s name on this list, a spot is not being reserved.  Just prior to booking the flights for the mission trip (usually 2 months in advance of the trip), if there is still space available for the trip, People for Haiti will contact the volunteers in the order in which they appear on the waiting list to see if they are still interested in attending.  Since time will be of the essence to book flights, once People for Haiti contacts a volunteer on the waiting list, the volunteer will need to confirm whether they will join the trip, and must provide the personal information listed above within 48 hours of notification of availability.  After 48 hours, People for Haiti will remove the volunteer from the waiting list and will contact the next person on the list.  If you are contacted in this regard, I encourage you to respond as quickly as possible to ensure we are able to timely book flights.

Our Board of Directors is very pleased to see so many people interested in joining us on mission trips.  Planning a mission trip requires careful consideration of attendees to ensure we have the appropriate number of doctors, nurses and volunteers on each trip.  In order to achieve this, it is imperative that we eliminate uncertainty as to who will actually participate in each mission trip.  We hope you understand that this new procedure is not meant to be a discouragement, but is to ensure we are able to appropriately form teams well in advance of each mission to ensure the continued success of People for Haiti.
